How To Get Ahead of 99% Of People (In 6-12 Months)

“Today I will do what others won't, so tomorrow I can do what others can't.” – Jerry Rice

Vision & A Strong Why

The first step to getting ahead of 99% of people is to have a strong reason why as well as a direction. If you don’t know where you’re going and why, it’s going to be very difficult for you to keep your drive up, especially when things get hard.

Create a vision of your dream life.

Where do you live?

What business do you run?

Who you are with?

Whatever that might be.

You can go even one level further and create an ideal day in your life.

Imagine right now that you have everything you ever wanted. What would your tomorrow look like? Write from that perspective. Be detailed and specific.

When do you wake up?

How do you dress?

What tasks are you working on and when?

What do you eat?

How do you work out?

How do you spend your evenings?

On top of that, be also clear about your reason why.

For what are you doing this all for?

Is it just for you to have enough money and spend it on cool stuff or is it to help your family?

Or both?

Figure it out and you will unlock unstoppable motivation and drive.

Crafting Your Anti-Vision

Now you want to create a picture of a life you don’t want.

A life that scares the hell out of you.

A life that you would consider as a big failure (if you give up on your goals).

The purpose of this anti-vision is to create a clear set of consequences that would follow if you continue procrastinating, putting things off, and not taking daily action.

Your anti-vision should be packed with clear images of how you don’t want your life to look. Just like with the ideal day in a life, create a day in a life in your anti-vision.

Where do you live?

How much money are you making?

What do you do for work?

What life do you have?

How are you spending your days?

Don’t hold back.

Alignment

Once you have your vision and anti-vision crafted, the next step to get ahead of 99% of people is to align your goals with your dream life/vision.

The reason why this is one of the most important steps is because sometimes people don’t chase their own goals – they chase the goals of their parents or society.

Or maybe the goals of some Gurus online.

Once they achieve those goals, they feel miserable. They feel like they achieved nothing.

That’s why we have 2 different types of goals – ego and heart goals.

Ego goals are usually somebody else goals that you are trying to achieve.

You’ve seen somebody with nice yachts and you wanna be like them – but deep down you don’t even want a yacht.

Become conscious about it. List out every goal you want to achieve and question it:

“Is this truly what I want?”

If the answer is no, get rid of it.

If you find yourself with a blank paper or you don’t know what goals to set, use this formula:

Set three goals: financial, health, and impact.

These three goals are like a domino. Once you achieve those three, every area in your life will improve.

When you set those three goals, make sure they are aligned with your vision.

If everyone is setting goals to build big businesses with 100+ employees, but you don’t want that – you want to be a one-person business or maybe have a couple of team members, then stick to your vision. That’s alignment.

Every goal must go hand-in-hand with the vision you created for yourself.

If it doesn’t, ignore it or find a way how you can achieve that.

There is always a way.

Working On The Right Things

You can work the same amount of hours as somebody else but you won’t get anywhere.

If you want to get ahead of 99% of people, you need to do what 99% of them are not doing.

And that’s working on the right things.

Having 10+ tasks on your to-do list, not completing most of them, wondering why you are not moving anywhere, not making any progress while you work like crazy all day every day…

Is not going to work. There is a better way.

Create a roadmap.

Like with the vision, you need to know where you are going.

Create your 1-year goal for your business.

From there, reverse engineer that 1-year goal into quarterly goals and actions.

Then, monthly goals and actions.

Following my weekly goals and actions.

And you’ll end up with daily goals and actions.

Once you have clarity on what goals and actions you need to do every day to hit your 1-year goal, you write them down somewhere you can see them, schedule them in your calendar, and commit to doing only those.

Those daily actions should be needle-moving tasks that actually drive your business forward.

Those needle-moving tasks are your daily priority. No matter what happens during the day, you get those done. Every single day without fail.

Deep Work & Flow State

Having clarity on what tasks to do is not enough.

Maybe you’ve experienced this yourself: you know what to do, but you’re not simply doing it.

That’s because you don’t have the right tools and skills to do so.

The first thing you need to master is your deep work blocks.

These work blocks are there to help you work on your needle-moving tasks with ease.

Without distractions, without procrastination, and without multitasking.

Your deep work blocks should be done first thing in the morning while you have the most mental clarity, energy, and willpower.

During your deep work, there is nobody interrupting you and wanting things from you.

It’s you vs. you. Nobody else is allowed.

Deep work blocks are usually 60-120 minutes long and if you can do 2-3 of them per day, you’re going to easily get ahead of 99% of people and achieve great success.

Think about it – how would your life change if you were able to do the right set of actions every single day in one or three 60-120-minute blocks without distractions?

It would probably change a lot.

One thing that is important to mention, deep work without the flow state is useless.

Flow state is a mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity.

You’re in the zone and you forget about everything that exists around you.

Mastering flow is the next skill set and tool you need to learn how to use.

Disappear & Change Your Environment

One last step to changing your life in 6-12 months and getting ahead of 99% of people is to optimize your environment and disappear.

Toxic people, old limiting habits, and distractions are the biggest blockers to success.

If you don’t get rid of them (at least for the temporary season of growth) they are always going to be there, trying to break you.

Why would you have so much friction in your life and make it harder than it needs to be?

Cut out toxic people from your life for the next 6-12 months.

Stop going partying, getting drunk, and fueling your body with toxins and crap.

Get rid of apps and websites that are distracting you.

By doing so you’ll channel all the dopamine to your work.

Go all in on yourself and your vision.

Put blinders on and cut out the noise.

That’s the price you have to pay.
